Cubs Officially Add Drew Pomeranz

The Chicago Cubs today selected left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz from Triple-A Iowa. In corresponding moves, left-handed pitcher Jordan Wicks was optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Pomeranz will wear #47.

Pomeranz, 37, signed a minor league contract with the Cubs on June 22. He played two games with the I-Cubs and did not surrender a run in 2.0 innings of work, allowing just one hit and one walk with three strikeouts. Prior to rejoining the Cubs organization, he went 0-3 with a 5.01 ERA (13 ER/23.1 IP), 16 strikeouts and 12 walks in 25 relief appearances with the Angels before being designated for assignment on June 15.

The Memphis, Tenn., native spent last season with the Cubs, going 2-2 with one save, a 2.17 ERA (12 ER/49.2 IP), 57 strikeouts compared to just 15 walks, and a .210 opponent batting average across 57 outings (four starts). He made six postseason appearances in 2025, allowing just one run in 6.0 innings and striking out six batters.  He is 50-63 with 10 saves, a 3.85 ERA (398 ER/931.1 IP), 956 strikeouts and 396 walks in 371 major league games, including 144 starts, with Colorado (2011-13), Oakland (2014-15), San Diego (2016, 2020-21), Boston (2016-18), San Francisco (2019), Milwaukee (2019), the Cubs (2025) and Los Angeles-A.L. (2026).

Wicks, 26, was recalled on June 28 and picked up two saves in two games (4.0 IP, 1 ER/R, 5 H, 2 SO, 1 BB).

The Cubs play the St. Louis Cardinals today at 3:05 p.m. at Wrigley Field in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 104.3 the Score and, in Spanish, on TUDN 106.7.
