Chicago Cubs Lineup (7/4/26): Happy Birthday ‘Merica, Imanaga Starting

Imagine being a low-tier blogger whose primary responsibility is to keep up with the most basic news about the Cubs. Now imagine said blogger forgetting the power cord for his computer. I already said I was going to dial things back this weekend, but I didn’t mean to sabotage myself. Alas, I’m taking this as a sign that y’all simply don’t need a detailed breakdown.

It doesn’t help (or hurt) that the Cubs are coming off a 17-1 shellacking that was over before it really got started. I can’t tell you how much I hate that they’re playing this one at night, but maybe that just means they’ll provide some fireworks. Shõta Imanaga is on the bump for the Cubs, with Kyle Leahy going for the Cards. I can tell you this is honestly the first time I’ve ever looked into Leahy, who is about to make his 18th career start in parts of four seasons.

Only one of those starts came prior to this year, but he has 97 relief appearances since 2023. Since I’ve already started with the honesty, I’ll add that I probably won’t watch much of this game. We’re at a Vrbo with family and my nephews have never seen Jaws, so I feel like introducing them to an all-time classic movie is imperative.

Tonight’s game is on FOX and The Score, with first pitch at 7:08pm CT.
