Cubs Recall Braxton Garrett, Option Tyler Ferguson
The Cubs immediately optioned lefty Braxton Garrett to Triple-A after acquiring him from the Marlins on Monday, but he’s now in Chicago as the team continues to cycle through fresh arms. Garrett seemed to have clashed with Miami’s pitching infrastructure and could experience a bounceback if allowed to be himself, something we saw with Jake Arrieta over a decade ago.
The Chicago Cubs today recalled left-handed pitcher Braxton Garrett from Triple-A Iowa. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Tyler Ferguson was optioned to Iowa.
Garrett,29, was acquired on Monday from the Miami Marlins. He will wear #60.
Ferguson, 32, is 0-1 with a 3.45 ERA (6 ER/15.2 IP), 19 strikeouts, two walks and a 0.76 WHIP in 16 relief appearances with the Cubs this season.
The Cubs play the Toronto Blue Jays today at 1:20 p.m. at Wrigley Field in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 104.3 the Score and, in Spanish, on TUDN 106.7.
