Cubs Recall Braxton Garrett, Option Gavin Hollowell

Sunday’s regular-season finale will see Craig Counsell work to avoid using any consequential arms, so the Cubs made a move to add a fresh pitcher who can eat 2-3 innings. Braxton Garrett has been recalled, with Gavin Hollowell being optioned to clear a spot. More in the media release below.

The Chicago Cubs today recalled left-handed pitcher Braxton Garrett. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Gavin Hollowell was optioned to the Arizona Complex League.

Garrett, 29, has made two appearances with the Cubs this season since being acquired via trade from the Marlins on August 3, allowing a combined seven earned runs in 4.1 innings of work (14.54 ERA) with five strikeouts. With Triple-A Iowa, he is 3-2 with a 4.11 ERA (14 ER/30.2 IP), 32 strikeouts, 15 walks and a 1.27 WHIP in seven starts.

Hollowell, 28, has a 2.45 ERA (4 ER/14.2 IP) with 13 strikeouts across 15 games with Chicago this season.
